Are You Over-Thinking Your Diet?

If you stop anyone on the street in this country today, there is a great chance that they will be on a diet. Low-fat, low-carb, no meat, no dairy, sugar free, gluten free: these types of diets are wide and varied. When looking at the world's population, the communities that have the highest rates of longevity show a large array in the types of foods they consume, but one commonality is seen across all of the world's oldest communities--they eat a high percentage of plant based foods, which are relatively low fat.
Many health experts are coming into the agreement that there is no one "cure all" diet for every person, but the more plants you eat, the better it is for your health. Aim to get more of your calories from plants per day than from animal sources. It is really that simple.
Okinawa, Japan, continues to be among one of the oldest living and healthiest populations on Earth. The people in Okinawa show an 80 percent lower instance of heart disease, 75 percent lower cases of prostate and breast cancer, and 67 percent lower risk of dementia than the population of the U.S. These people regularly consume a high amount of carbohydrates, including grains and legumes. They eat about 6 percent of their diet from fat, low animal products, and high amounts of sea vegetables.
Of course, you do not have to adopt a Japanese diet to increase your longevity. Simply focusing on increasing vegetable intake can drastically lower your risk of heart disease, and increasing consumption of raw vegetables may help you to get to 100. One study found that people who ate five servings of vegetables and fruits daily, lived about 3 years longer than those who did not, even eating just one fruit can extend your life by 1.5 years.
The answer to a healthier life really is that simple. Increase plant consumption, make sure that more of your daily calories are from plant sources. When preparing your dinner plate make sure that the majority is plant based. Try lowering meat consumption to once daily to decrease risk of heart disease. Doctors and cardiologists who emphasize an interest in healing and reversing chronic diseases with plant based diets, suggest that the first word of health advice should be simply, "eat more fruits and vegetables, raw when you can."
Always consult your chiropractor or primary care physician for all your health related advice

Achieve Total Freedom From the Straight Jacket of Shyness

Do you know that many people suffer needlessly with shyness? Do you know that individuals are literally hypnotized into this self conscious straight jacket early in life? Finally, do you know that now it is possible to completely and permanently wake up from this nightmarish trance and become a self confident, self assured, socially competent and empowered human being? Want to learn why this is now possible for you too?
Shyness can manifest as social anxiety, self consciousness, and feelings of insecurity, vulnerability, inadequacy, embarrassment, humiliation and shame in social situations that can lead to the total avoidance of social interaction. This often leaves the shy person feeling worthless, frustrated, weak, alone, defective, flawed, useless, unattractive, paralyzed, inadequate, hopeless, stuck, unfulfilled, needy, and depressed.
Shyness is rooted in subconsciously programmed beliefs or feelings that many individuals rarely become aware of such as:
1. There is something deeply wrong with me.
2. I'm unlovable, worthless and useless.
3. I'm inadequate and a loser.
4. I'm totally unattractive.
5. People think I'm odd.
6. A need to be loved appreciated or liked.
7. A deep fear of rejection or abandonment.
8. A fear of humiliation.
9. A fear of behaving in inappropriate needy ways.
10. A fear of looking stupid.
And much more.
So how does shyness start and what can be done about it, you ask?
Well let me employ a metaphor. Suppose you go to a stage hypnotist show and are chosen as one of the subjects. While on stage the hypnotist gives you hypnotic suggestions such as: You are weak, unlovable, inadequate, unwanted, weird, awkward, odd etc...
After you leave the show these suggestions remain implanted deep in your subconscious mind.
From that point on you find yourself feeling vulnerable whenever you interact with others. This vulnerability has associated with it some unfamiliar feelings such as: a fear of being rejected, fear of looking or behaving in foolish or awkward ways, a deep feeling of inferiority or inadequacy, a fear that everyone around you thinks there is something wrong with you, a paralysing anxiety that clouds your mind, ability to speak and makes it almost impossible for you to relax, be your spontaneous self and enjoy socializing with others.
Well, what you are experiencing is what many refer to as shyness.
What you may also now realize is that it is driven and rooted in those hypnotically implanted suggestions i.e. what I call "negative self beliefs".
Now you are fortunate because many of these negative suggestions will soon dissolve and disappear freeing you up to become your natural confident and spontaneous self.
A person who actually suffers from shyness, I too had been one for most of my early adult life, has had such negativity "downloaded" into the subconscious mind by early negative experiences such as abuse, neglect, abandonment, humiliation, failure, bullying etc...
These kinds of experiences, unlike simple hypnotically induced suggestions, remain fixed and impenetrable for long periods of time because they are supported by the negative memories of the events I just mentioned. Now because memories cannot (until now) be permanently and completely deleted that essentially leaves such individuals totally and perpetually imprisoned in their negative self beliefs and therefore their shyness.
A decade ago while exploring the nature of negative memories and how they are stored within the mind/body it was realized that simply by analyzing the ways they supposedly benefit us that they could be completely and permanently erased. As this was done individuals who suffered with such things as shyness, as well as many other limiting issues, began to become progressively and completely freed up from these crippling problems.
Many began to feel like their confident, empowered, authentic, relaxed, socially competent selves again and actually forgot what it meant or felt like to experience shyness at all.
As difficult as this is to fathom or believe it has helped to give many individuals their lives back.
So if you are one of those individuals who has been imprisoned and limited by shyness and you would like to finally be free kindly visit the web site below where you can request a free introductory telephone or Skype coaching consultation that will begin to take you there today.

A Surprising Tip to Beat Depression - Where You'd Least Expect It

The truth is out there. Not the truth about space aliens, but a truth about how to sabotage negative thinking and beat depression that often comes with it.
When we are depressed we close ourselves down, until our world is very small. Left alone it can even get so small that are thoughts are all we hear, and our depression is all we see.
What to do? Get up, get out there, and make someone else's day.
One little discussed feature of depression is that it doesn't multi-task well. It wants you to concentrate on feeling bad, which it depends on to feed itself. When you begin thinking about making someone else happy, it gets confused, and forgets what to do.
Depending on how depressed you are, getting out there may not be easy. It works best when you are in the vague, grey stages. But it can be a lifeline to keep you from sinking further down.
The marvel of deliberate kindness. We've probably all seen bumper stickers encouraging us toward "random acts of kindness." And that's a wonderful idea. But to short circuit the stages of depression, it works best to be deliberate about what you want to do.
Being deliberate helps you focus on being friendly for other people's sake, and to forget about yourself for a while. You are not going out to put on a brave face, or parade how sad you feel. Your purpose is to go out and spread some sunshine for a change.
Here's how it works.
It's pretty simple, really. Go to the grocery store, the mall, or run some errands that need doing. Greet each salesperson or checker with a great big smile. Look them right in the eye, ask how they are... and really mean it. Call them by name, and allow yourself to feel genuinely grateful that they have been there on their feet all day, just so you could shop.
I can't explain what happens, but I have experienced it time after time. Maybe our faces actually change. Maybe we simply start to feel better. But people do respond. They do smile back far more sincerely than their little canned greeting requires them to do. And you are on the receiving end of all those smiles.
When we do this enough, our own smiles feel more comfortable. They rest on our faces like they belong there. Strangers walking by may start to comment on what a lovely day it is. We may hum a happy song.
Let your mind enjoy a vacation.
After you've been outside smiling at people, you can also find a quiet place to smile at yourself. A walking meditation in a park, or sitting quietly, allows your mind to appreciate this chance to lighten up.
Take in all that positive energy that other people have given you, and just bask for a while in feeling good. Be thankful for everyone you met today, and be glad you made someone smile.

Think You Are Depressed? So What Happens Now

Everyone gets down now and again, but if you suspect that you may have depression, especially if the bad feelings last for several days, then you need to see your doctor. The symptoms that you may display such as tiredness, poor sleep, loss of libido, lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities, could be similar to those of other unrelated illnesses. He or she will give you a full assessment and qualified diagnosis of your problem.
But even with your own doctor's examination, you may still be sent to see a specialist before treatment is prescribed. There is absolutely no need to feel embarrassed or shy when talking to any professionals about your problems. After all, that's what they are trained for, and it's very important at this stage to get the diagnosis correct for your particular illness.
One thing you must remember, and that is, depression is also a real illness. Everyone can sympathize with a broken leg, or someone having an operation. But depression is different in that there are usually no obvious signs that something is very wrong, and people suffering with the illness are very good at covering it up when near others, tending instead to suffer in silence and alone. Depression is nothing to be ashamed or feel guilty about.
You must not think that your problem will just go away by "toughening up" or "pulling yourself together". Nor will it disappear by going on a spending spree, or a holiday abroad. Of course, this may help in the short-term, but without professional help, things will soon be back to where they were before.
Although serious, you will be pleased to know that depression is very treatable, but usually only with help, not just from medical professionals, but also friends and family too. Make sure they understand how you are feeling and readily accept any support offered. You may be surprised how supportive people can be in these situations, even though it is a "hidden" illness which makes it difficult for some folk to comprehend.
Let's look at the types of treatment you may be offered for depression.
There are always differences of opinion as to what type of treatment should be offered first to a patient. The options are basically talk therapy, medications, or a combination of both. Take your doctor's advice on this because everyone is different, and what works well for one patient may not work so well for another.
If you are seeing a psychologist, you will be talking through your problems. A psychiatrist will also use talk therapy, but is qualified to prescribe drugs as well if necessary.
Which ever treatment path you take for depression, the important thing is that you are taking that first step, which every journey begins with, no matter how long it may be.

Signs That You May Be Having A Nervous Breakdown

Are you having a nervous breakdown?
If you think that you may be having a nervous breakdown, it will be helpful to get some information about break downs and why they occur. Here you're going to get a few tips so you can figure out what you're going through, and then you can take care of it.
How do you know if you are having a nervous breakdown?
Basically a nervous breakdown means that you're not able to function properly in your day to day life after some kind of an event. Perhaps you feel like you've reached a limit to what you can do for yourself, and you see no way to get back to the way you used to be. Whatever the case may be, there could be something like anxiety or depression that you have that can make you more nervous than most people. Generally you need to get those things fixed if you want to get rid of the chance that you'll have a nervous breakdown.
It's very important that you remember that you should call a suicide hotline or tell someone if you feel like hurting yourself or other people. You can even take yourself to the hospital and let them know what's going on and they will be able to get you the help you need. It can get expensive if you do go to the hospital, but that's nothing compared to what could happen to you if you decide to take your own life or try to hurt another person due to your mental state.
You may want to start going to counselling and even maybe get on some medications. Generally you have to see someone different to work on your medications, and then you can see someone that you can tell all of your problems to. Whatever the case may be, it's always a good idea to figure out what to look for when you're taking medications in terms of side effects. A lot of people have a hard time dealing with these side effects so they have to switch medications. Don't be afraid to bring up medication changes to a doctor because their job is to make sure you're on something that works for you.
Try to keep yourself away from stress for a while when you feel like you're at your breaking point. When you have a nervous breakdown, it's generally because you're too stressed out and have too much on your plate to do. If you can, just take a little while off of work and make sure that you have someone do your house chores for you if possible. Just try to take it easy because this kind of a breakdown is your body's response to a lot of stress.
Now it's probably easy for you to tell if you're having a nervous breakdown or if you know someone that has. This isn't going to be easy to get through, but know that it will end and you will be able to get help if you need it.

Adrenal Insufficiency - How Stress Can Destroy Your Health

Do any of the following signs and symptoms ring true for you?
- You feel tired all the time, for no reason
- You have difficulty waking up in the morning even if you went to bed at a decent hour
- You need a coffee, caffeinated tea, pop, or other stimulant just to get going
- You find that you get a surge of energy at night
- You have a poor tolerance to stress (whether mental, emotional or physical)
- You have a lot of food cravings (salty or sweet)
- You have been getting sick more often or when you are sick it seems to linger for longer
If you've answered yes for the majority of these, chances are you are suffering from adrenal insufficiency.
Adrenal insufficiency, otherwise known as adrenal fatigue, seems to have become an increasingly prevalent condition in our modern world. Why? Because we have become a world of overachievers, where working yourself to death is celebrated, we are constantly on the go, not taking enough time to relax, recover, and sleep. So many people are under constant stress, that they don't even realize that they are inadvertently damaging their health. When I say stress, this includes not only psychological stress, but also things like chronic infections, allergies, exposure to chemical toxins, use of stimulants (including caffeine and nicotine), poor nutrition, physical trauma, and poor sleep habits. All of these things, among others, can trigger a stress response in your body, which can be damaging.
How your body deals with that stress depends on the proper functioning of your adrenal glands, and if your adrenal glands aren't functioning properly then many other systems in your body will start to decline, if they haven't already. Why do I say that? Well, your adrenal glands are like one of your bodies master regulators.
Depending of their function, they can affect your immune system, sex hormones, blood sugar levels, psychological function, cardiovascular system, and metabolism, to name a few. That's a lot of work for two little glands that sit on top of your kidneys like a triangular hat.
Chronic stress is one of the most damaging things that can happen to your health. Not all stressful events are preventable, but forming good habits (proper nutrition and sleep) and developing good coping mechanisms can help offset some of the negative effects associated with stress. However, if you're at a point where you suspect adrenal insufficiency, it might be time to have your adrenals assessed. Once assessed (often via salivary testing), your adrenal glands can then be appropriately supported to restore proper function and to prevent more serious health issues down the road. Don't let stress damage your health

The Anxiety Epidemic

What is an Epidemic? The rapid spread or increase in the occurrence of something. With almost 7 million people being affected by Generalized Anxiety Disorder in the U.S. alone, and 40 million people suffering from some type of mental health issue, we have ourselves a problem that is growing at lightning speed - an epidemic - that doesn't get the attention it truly deserves. As someone who suffered from anxiety, I was often told by multiple 'professionals' that anxiety is treatable, and that the vast majority of people with an anxiety disorder can be helped with professional care. I am forced to call slight bull... - let me explain why. The 'professional' options for you are:
Therapy - Therapy has limited success written all over it. Why? Reason #1 - because eliminating anxiety depends completely on one word, CONSISTENCY. With an average of $175 per session to visit a therapist, and the gaps that exist in between visits (if your therapist sees you once a week, which is rare) there is more than enough time for your anxiety symptoms to creep back in, and the cycle of panic attacks to keep returning. This can be a long and hard fought battle between you and well, yourself. Structure is key to overcoming an anxiety disorder and the symptoms that accompany it. Reason #2 - to overcome anxiety once and for all, one must completely FORGET about the anxiety. How can you do that if you're constantly being reminded of it with every visit? I've concluded that over my 6 years of struggle and recovery from anxiety and panic disorder, that I can go as far to say that therapy for anxiety is actually counter-productive UNLESS you have a boat load of money to blow on therapy sessions, or have a therapist that has actually gone through what you have, and succeeded themselves in the end.
That Being Cared For Feeling - The way I look at therapy is it's comfortable. It's a stranger holding you in their arms comforting you as you wallow in self victimization. It is kind of similar to the endless posting I used to do on forums asking others if they've gone through a certain symptom, have tried this new drug my doctor prescribed, or just needed a boost. It's all good at the time, but this doesn't end your anxiety disorder. I just wish I realized this quicker than I did.
Medication - Anxiety disorders and depression are not caused by a chemical problem in the brain. Wow, when I figured that one out I was stunned as well, and quickly stopped my daily search on DR GOOGLE to find out what drug would 'fix' my chemical imbalance the quickest. Anxiety Disorders cost the U.S. over 42 BILLION dollars a year, you heard that right - 42 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR, you'd think with those kinds of numbers drugs like Effexor, Lexapro and Zoloft (popular antidepressants) would be lessening the numbers of people suffering from mental health problems, not adding to them.
The Chemical Imbalance Theory lacks Evidence! I want to share with you one of many recent headlines that refutes the chemical imbalance theory:
"Ads for SSRI antidepressants are misleading", say researchers. Consumer ads for a class of antidepressants called SSRIs often claim that depression is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, and that SSRIs correct this imbalance, but these claims are not supported by scientific evidence, say researchers in PLoS Medicine. Medical News Today - November 12, 2005
Simply put, independent investigations have concluded that there never was any "true" evidence that supports the chemical imbalance theory, even at the outset.
In a nutshell, what you and I were led to believe is not completely accurate, and the first line of treatment for symptoms of anxiety and ultimately an anxiety disorder, should really NOT be the first line of treatment at all. This epidemic is growing by the day with no real light at the end of the tunnel for the majority of people. But that doesn't have to be you. You can take control over your anxiety related issues once and for all by recognizing how others like me have overcome their struggles naturally, and for good. That is by looking internally within yourself for answers, rather than looking for an answer from something external in your outside world. An anxiety disorder has been consistently 'programmed' into you, and can be easily programmed out of you.
Understanding what you've read here is the first step...

Beginning A New Life After Making Mistakes

Did you make many mistakes in life? Are you ashamed of your actions? Are you blocked by what happened in the past?
There is a bright solution for you. Now you can breathe again.
You are not really responsible for making mistakes and sins. The real reason why you make mistakes and you are a sinner always is the intervention of your anti-conscience into your conscious mind. Your anti-conscience is your absurd and evil primitive conscience. It didn't evolve with time because it refuses to change its behavior. It has a self-destructive and satanic nature.
You cannot be considered responsible for your actions when you are controlled by your absurd and evil anti-conscience because it is a primitive conscience. You are not a conscious human being when you are controlled by your anti-conscience, even though this is not visible to the outside world.
Now, you may conclude that if this is true, we cannot consider anyone responsible for anything. Yes, this is a fact. We cannot blame anyone for being absurd and evil because human beings inherit absurdity and evilness from birth. Everyone must be absolved.
Of course, you have a certain responsibility when you accept what is bad, and this is why you are judged by God based on your goodness. You are responsible for your initial acceptance of what was bad.
However, you cannot be considered responsible for making serious mistakes. When your human conscience is alive you have to condemn what is bad. When your anti-conscience destroys your conscience because you accepted what was bad, you act like an idiotic rational animal.
The fact that you are a rational animal doesn't mean that you are intelligent enough. On the other hand, you must develop your sensitivity if you want to be a balanced person. Intelligence without sensitivity cannot help you understand your reality.
You will be able to better understand this truth thanks to the precious meaning of dreams.
Through dream translation you enter into direct contact with God. You understand everything about your mental health, your life, your future, and a lot more. You verify that you are not responsible for your actions because you can see your anti-conscience into your brain and psyche. The unconscious mind sends you numerous dreams reflecting your anti-conscience's hidden intentions.
You understand when you are controlled by your anti-conscience, and you learn how to stop being controlled or influenced by your absurd and evil anti-conscience.
Your anti-conscience is a terrible demon, totally different from you. You are the human being concentrated into your tiny human conscience. You are not responsible for the existence of your anti-conscience.
You wouldn't make mistakes if you hadn't inherited this absurd and evil primitive conscience. However, you need this absurd conscience because without it you wouldn't be able to think, feel, sense, and perceive the abstract side of your reality.
The solution for you is the transformation of your anti-conscience into human content by obeying God's guidance in your own dreams. You will stop making mistakes and never again regret having done something. It doesn't matter how many mistakes you made, even if you have committed horrible crimes. Your absolution is obvious only because you had no conditions to fight absurdity.
God knows that you are not able to win your satanic anti-conscience without His help.
However, only if you will recognize your mistakes and you will truly desire to correct all mistakes is your absolution possible. Otherwise, you will be judged like a sinner. You cannot be forgiven without asking for forgiveness.
God knows how to make miracles. You don't have to worry about how you will correct your mistakes. God tells you how. The difficult part is to actually do everything you have to, so that you may correct your mistakes. Or better saying, the difficult part begins with the acceptance of your inferiority.
You have to accept the position of a sinner, and desire to change your behavior and begin a new life. You cannot protect your ego. This is very hard when you are proud of yourself and you have an important social position. You cannot accept being humiliated to the point of having to admit that you made costly mistakes and sins, and declare that you regret having done what you did.
God is revolted with the human race exactly because we prefer to suffer (and generate suffering) than to recognize the truth and humbly admit our faults. We don't have the courage to admit we made mistakes, and we don't have the courage to do anything to correct these mistakes. We prefer to hide our guilt.
We have no courage to demoralize our ego. However, we must admit the truth in order to eliminate our absurdity. We cannot hide the truth and evolve. We have to admit the bitter truth and then, begin a new life, without our evil self.
If you want to follow an evolutionary process and attain higher levels of knowledge you have to find peace after separating yourself from your evil side. You have to admit your mistakes, without being a hypocrite.
God created you, the human being who loves goodness and happiness because He needs your help in order to eliminate your evil side through consciousness. You have to obey God's guidance in your dreams and in your religion, so that you may get rid of your evil enemy, and begin a new life without having this monster constantly bothering you.
In order to do so, you cannot have the behavior of a thief. You must have the behavior of a balanced human being who is able to recognize your mistakes, without having the selfish and absurd attitude of someone who cannot be in an inferior position. You have to be humble and respect the truth.
Your new life will be the life of a wise and sensitive human being who understands the importance of goodness. This new life will help you forget your sad past and all your traumatic experiences. You have the right to begin again after recognizing your mistakes.
Christina Sponias continued Carl Jung's research into the human psyche, discovering the cure for all mental illnesses, and simplifying the scientific method of dream interpretation that teaches you how to exactly translate the meaning of your dreams, so that you can find health, wisdom and happiness.

Save Yourself From Anxiety And Depression

Depression is "A mental disorder characterized by feelings of gloom and inadequacy" and anxiety is classified as ''a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome". Being anxious or depressed some of the time is normal and is a part of being human. However when anxiety and depression prolongs itself and starts to affect your daily life your relationships and self esteem that gets alarming and needs intervention, be it medical intervention or self help. Depression is more than short term sadness. Feeling anxious is OK sometimes, before a job interview for example, before an exam but anxiety disorder becomes prolonged and lead to panic attacks. Our feelings are important physiological cues to us and they are gentle ways of nature to tell us about something, they are indicators that we need to amend the specific aspects of our lives and tuning up ourselves is needed. These feelings of anxiety and negativity are signals for us. Mother Nature is telling us (and if we don`t listen yelling at us) TO DO SOMETHING. They are in fact trying to motivate you. Take the example of a person criticizing you. You will not like it, feel angry or hurt. That is your mind`s response in saving your well-being.
However when these feelings of anxiety and depression get out of control and you feel your productivity is being affected and you don`t want to come out of the bed and just want to vanish or disappear when you think that your existence does not matter to any one and the world would be better off without you this is the kind of feeling you should get rid of and treat.
Getting free from anxiety and depression
Depression is a very painful situation. It is even worse than cancer. The agony and the suffering a depressed person undergoes are immense and the good news is that it can be cured. Read along to know how you can save yourself or a loved one in depression
Reprogram your mind: the negative feelings the feeling of worthlessness are all in your mind. Fight them, counter them and do this firmly. Tell yourself again and again that you are a wonderful amazing and unique person. Kill those negative thoughts that let you down and make you feel bad about yourself.
Get inspired by people: keep a good company, one that will motivate you, let you learn and grow and excel in life.
Get connected with nature: nature has a magical way of healing. Go for a walk, hiking go to the beach or just stroll in a park.
Help others: when you lend a helping hand to those who are less fortunate than you are you will feel blessed and thankful and happy.
Eat happy: take vitamins, fresh fruits, and maintain a healthy well balanced diet.
Exercise: A 30 min walk in the park will boost your mood a lot. Make it a habit to do physical exercise daily and this will relax you and lessen your anxiety.
Write it down: a great way to do purification is to write down everything or anything that comes to your mind in a private diary and one feels less stressed. This method is especially helpful if you are having communication problems and find it hard to communicate verbally. This journal therapy is a great way to de-stress yourself
Live your own life: we have many responsibilities and roles that we are juggling in our daily lives and each responsibility demands a lot from us. Sometimes in the midst of these commitments we neglect our selves drastically and when this gets prolonged we get depressed. It happens that we are doing what pleases our parents our spouses our boyfriends or girl friends or someone else and in all this effort the person getting neglected severely is OUR OWN SELF. So take time for your own self, make yourself happy and LIVE YOUR DREAM.
Stop comparing yourself with others: that will just make matters worse for you. You can`t comprehend what problems other people have faced so be grateful for what you have and concentrate on your own life. This way you shall defeat both the anxiety and depression. The grass always looks green on the other side of the fence, but it isn't.

13 Reasons People Become Clinically Depressed And How It Can Be Turned Around

Having 'clinical' depression can affect all aspects of a persons life, strangely enough during my days of dealing with depression waking up in the morning in itself was tiring, even after a good nights sleep. Our self esteem and self confidence takes a beating and that dark gloomy cloud that hangs over the heads of people that are going through depression, unfortunately can not be wished away or just float out of their lives somehow. First let's look at some reasons why people get themselves into a 'clinically' depressed state, and then look at what has worked for myself and others I work with to get back to feeling abundant again.
Reasons People Become Depressed:
Becoming Isolated - It's just natural for human beings to want to be around other people. If the option of meeting that significant other and starting a family is there we feel fulfilled, but if it's not an option, we at least want to feel the closeness that friends, co workers or certain social groups give us. The feeling of being isolated appears when we feel that we just don't belong, and this is a major reason people become depressed.
Medications - Let's remember that antidepressant medication and clinical depression in general is still very poorly understood. But if you are on some kind of antidepressant consider yourself one of the lucky ones if you don't experience side effects such as the one written on the back of my old prescription: "Fluoxetine may cause some people to be agitated, irritable or display other abnormal behaviors. It may also cause some people to have suicidal thoughts and tendencies or to become more depressed."
Chronic Stress - If you are dealing with chronic stress and anxiety it may be contributing to disrupting normal patterns of behavior, which can then lead you down the road of depression.
Candida Overgrowth - Toxins that become released into the bloodstream due to the Candida fungus in the human body can cause a multitude of symptoms, this can then lead to health anxiety and depression. As i've experienced in my own struggles in the past as well as seeing what has worked for others, curing your intestinal Candida can also cure your depression.
Childhood Abuse Or Hurt - A child who has been surrounded by abuse is much more likely to experience clinical depression at a later age then one who has not. In fact, the numbers show that 59% of physically abused children will become depressed later on in life. PTSD, learning difficulties and generalized anxiety are also part of the assortment of mental difficulties someone could experience later on in their lives.
Substance Abuse - It's estimated that 80% of people who have a chemical dependency or a certain addiction, also experience a co-occurring mental health problem such as generalized anxiety disorder or depression. Making the most of this one life that you are given, and firstly admitting that you need help is the first step to success, no one can truly create lasting change but yourself.
Loss of a Loved One - Grief is a normal emotion to the news of losing a loved one that commonly leads to major depressive disorder. Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness are all part of the grieving process.
Change - Sometimes when we lose that familiar feeling in our lives and get hit with a new job, a new marriage, a divorce, moving somewhere new, retirement etc, life can quickly become dissatisfying or dull. A seemingly positive change that has been planned for some time can bring unexpected changes that can bring about depressive episodes.
Nothing To Live For And Feeling Lost - There's nothing worse than having a stale life, something that gives you that jolt when you wake up in the morning is key for each one of us. This can come in the form of a new hobby, becoming educated about something you're interested in, taking part in a new social group, or maybe even teaching people something that you may be an expert at.
Financial Problems - Your money flow is the result of your continuous thoughts, that lead to your continuous emotions, that lead to your continuous actions. But isn't this true about everything in life? Yes, financial problems can certainly lead to depression but can be reversed for most people by applying what they already know.
Physical Illness - There is no doubt that clinical depression is a painful condition and often times occurs in association with a severe physical illness. Not only can physical illnesses lead to depression - the opposite occurs as well, which makes recognizing and treating depression all the more urgent.
The Media - With the average American exposing themselves to the media for just over 5 and a half hours per day, it's no surprise that this kind of exposure leads many into a state of depression. With the different messages being transmitted through the media that continuously reinforce aggression and other forms of risky behavior, it's no surprise that the media inspires anxiety and fear. Add to this the fact that media exposure at night time can disrupt sleeping patterns as well, and we have quite an interference in the development of our emotional and cognitive development.
Fear - It's easy to get into a pattern of negative thinking that breeds fear in us all, but the biggest obstacle that stood in my way during my 6 year struggle with an anxiety disorder was the fear of failure, which led me to live a confined and fearful life. What I've come to understand is to try something and fail, is not failure. But to not try at all, that's failure. So if the fear of failure is adding to your depressive state than understand that regret weighs more heavily on your shoulders then failure ever will.
Now That We Know What Could Be Contributing To Feeling Depressed, What can We Do About It?
The emotions that you are feeling are nothing more then a feedback mechanism. Feeling the emotion of fear for example means that the solution will come by stepping out of your feared comfort zone in a slow and systematic way. Feeling the emotion of isolation from others means that it's time you changed your approach to the situation that is isolating you from others, if financial problems are getting you down, become an entrepreneur and sell your expertise! For everything that is adding to the feelings of depression, there is an answer for, all you need to do is find the specific thing that is the cause, and listen to what kind of feedback you are getting. I've learned that the worst thing you can do is play the victim (as easy as it is to do so when depression strikes), as mentioned we get one shot at life and when the end comes I want you to look at your past and truly feel like you gave it your all each and everyday!

Building Personal Resilience

I recently attended a workshop called "Building Personal Resilience". It was hosted by a yoga studio I like to escape to and the individual who ran the workshop is a teacher, guidance counselor, and life coach (amongst other wonderful roles). The workshop was 2 hours long and therefore only covered basic techniques she suggested we apply to our anxious and stressed-out lives. Despite the short duration, I did walk away with a positive feeling and will definitely implement some of the methods we were provided. Maybe some of these techniques can help you, too:
Broaden Your Comfort Zone
The first exercise we were given was to write down one thing we are grateful for and one which we are concerned about. We wrote these down on sticky paper and were then asked to place them on a chart where we thought they measured as far as the greatness of gratitude or strength of stress. Once all of our sticky notes were on the chart they were scattered anywhere from close to the middle line (which represented our comfort zone) and either high above or far below that line. Our instructor (let's call her "Ms. D") informed us that most of our comfort zones are very narrow and one step towards becoming resilient is to broaden that comfort zone.
Another point she brought up related to this comfort zone is that we should change our perspective, specifically towards looking at things as "bad" or "good", "negative" or "positive". If we broaden our comfort zone, we can include the things we wrote down on our sticky notes as within that zone of what we find comfortable and just accept these things as something that occurs, rather than it being bad or good. The exact words she used were, "It is what it is." And that is all. If we learn to be comfortable with more of our experiences whether they are considered good or bad and just accept them for what they are, we can more easily face the stressful events with better resilience.

Re-scripting
Many of us who are overly anxious, stressed, and/or depressed have recurring thoughts which can be negative by nature. For example, "I am alone", "I am not worthy", "I am a bad parent", "I am a worrier", etc. These negative thoughts can be conscious or subconscious and can affect the way we react to and perceive situations. It's important to re-script these thoughts in order to create a more positive outlook and to learn to react to situations appropriately - to increase resilience. Instead of saying "I am a bad parent" one could say "Although I sometimes overreact to my child's mis-behaviour and don't always have the time I wish I had to spend with my children, I do the best I can and will continue to grow with my children and work on our relationship with love and respect."
"Right Here, Right Now"
I don't know how many of you have had a panic attack or have been so anxious that you lose focus and your mind feels fuzzy, but this has happened to me quite a few times during my life, especially in the last couple of years as parenting has become more difficult and my depression and anxiety has increased.
Ms. D explained to us that even during this phase of anxiety or panic, it's important to remain aware of the experience. We need to try to avoid that "fuzziness" and focus on what we are doing and how we are feeling. One very successful way to accomplish this is to control our breathing. This is the breathing exercise we did at the workshop:
1. Sit or lay down and focus on feeling the part of your body which is touching the ground, pillow, couch, etc.
2. Breathe normally and after a few breathes place your hands on either side of your belly button so that your middle fingers of each hand are touching each other at the tips.
3. Breathe in deeply enough (through your nose) that your belly fills up with air and your fingers separate, then breathe out (again through your nose) so that your fingertips touch again. Repeat this for a few breaths.
4. Next, move your hands to your sides where your rib cage ends with your thumbs wrapped towards your back and your pointing finger towards your front.
5. Breathe in deeply again so that your sides expand enough that they fill up your other three fingers. Breathe out and repeat this a few times.
6. Lastly, place your fingers below your collarbone.
7. Breathe in from your belly, side, and then up to where your hands are.
8. Continue for a few breaths, then put your hands at your sides and let your breathing return to normal.
This exercise should bring your breathing and heart rate back to normal and your panic attack or anxiety should subside. You can also try this breathing exercise while thinking about a stresser in your life and while breathing repeat the words "Right here, Right now". This reminds you to stay in the present and can hopefully help calm you in tough situations.
Gratitude
When we allow ourselves to be directed by the negative things that occur we can end up creating more negative thoughts and actions. It is important to remind ourselves of the things we are grateful for and to find time for positive substance in our day, every day. It can be easy to allow the negative to build up like a snowball that picks up more and more snow as it travels. Break down the negative ball of snow by chipping away at it with positive thoughts and give yourself the time you need to break the negative build-up. Sometimes that means taking a sick day from work or saying no to a dinner date. Whatever it is, it's important to recognize when the negative is taking over and to focus on your well-being.
At the end of the workshop, Ms. D suggested that we read any one or more of Brene Brown's books (and mentioned Daring Greatly, specifically).

Daily Detox - Secret to Fat Loss?

I wanted to dedicate my post today to the practice of daily body detoxifying. As I have done more research I truly believe this is a key the quick and efficient fat loss as well as overall well being.
Here is why:
Fat Cells are designed to hold toxins:
That is right, biologically our body fat cells are designed to hold and insulate our body from toxins that we consume while eating and breathing. By eliminating toxins in our body we literally get rid of the biological reason for our body to hold onto fat.
What are common body toxins?
Most of the toxins we consume come from preservatives in food, hormones in meat and dairy products and any artificial flavor additives. Most of these substances were not designed to be digested by the human body, therefore they turn into toxins. Our livers are naturally designed to cleanse our bodies but a majority of our diets are too tough for our liver to handle and any excess toxins are stored directly in fat cells.
Another common and aggressive toxin is alcohol. Alcohol is very tough on your liver and will become the main purification priority while drinking. This means any other toxins your consumed throughout the day are stored in fat cells while your liver is actively combating the alcohol.
Now, I along with most other people consume alcohol and food that has toxins. There are detoxifying foods you can eat on a daily basis to help your body detox.
Detoxifying Foods
Many foods have detoxifying qualities so I am going to stick to the ones that are most readily available. Fermented Teas such as Komboucha Tea, Raw fruits (blueberries, strawberries, wild berries, kiwi) just to name a few, Raw vegetables (greens, broccoli, asparagus, etc.). Leafy greens such as baby spinach is also a great addition. By consuming these foods on a daily basis you are significantly enhancing your body detoxification process and therefore allowing your body to "do away" with the biological need to hold body fat.
In Summary
As we are actively in a war against our own body fat we should use our own biological processes to our advantage. If we eliminate the need for our body to hold fat, we will have a much easier time burning it off. Our body holds fat to insulate from the negative effects of body toxins. Therefore, when we detox we are giving our body the reason it needs to let go of our remaining body fat.
It is almost impossible to avoid ingesting toxins so our best strategy is to eat naturally detoxifying foods every day.

Why Are We So Overweight?

Statistics show that millions of people, around the world, are overweight and at risk of developing serious health issues. But it never used to be like that 30, 40, or more years ago. So why has the population become so fat in recent times? What is causing this global problem?
Can Modern Medicine Cure Obesity?
Many people, including highly educated professionals, are now of the opinion that with contemporary, western medicine, obesity can never be cured.
Why Can't Obesity be Cured?
The answer is becoming more obvious everyday. Contemporary medicine uses drugs that are designed to treat the symptoms of the disease, but never deals with the root cause of the problem.
Why Not Treat the Root Cause of Obesity?
Modern medicine hasn't found the root cause of obesity. In fact, doctors acknowledge they have no idea what really causes obesity.
Obesity really only exists in the Western world. The condition practically doesn't exist in "undeveloped" parts of the world. And the rapid increase in obesity has only happened in the last 50 years.
There needs to be a lot more medical research into the cause and effects of obesity before doctors can start prescribing a simple drug remedy.
Does it make sense to take drugs if doctors don't know what causes obesity or how to cure it?
No, but many people do just that. Doctors are happily prescribing all sorts of drugs to alleviate the symptoms of obesity. Surgeons even perform radical lap band surgery on the stomaches of very obese patients. But what are the risks and possible side effects of these procedures? For most people who are mildly to moderately overweight drugs or surgery is not an option.
What is Really Causing this Global Obesity Problem?
The answer is beginning to become apparent to medical researches and professionals.
Obesity is not a disease. So it cannot be simply cured with medicine.
As obesity was less of an issue in our society 50 years ago it must be our modern lifestyle causing obesity. What else could it be?
The "Root Cause" of Obesity is Our Modern Lifestyle
In the last 50 to 100 years we have dramatically changed our diet in the developed world. Second world and third world countries don't have an obesity problem because their diet and lifestyles have not been significantly impacted by modern food production and processing.
In the developed world we are eating more calories, more processed foods and getting much less exercise.
What is the Answer to Obesity?
People with obesity need to change their diets to reduce the consumption of fast and processed foods. They need to increase their intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and drink more water. This will eventually lead to improved health and improve the performance of their bodily functions.
Obese people also need to get more exercise into their daily routines.
Of course, this is much easier spoken than achieved but if you want to lose weight that's what you have to do.
